The Laff Chateau Lafayette is Ottawa’s oldest Bar. Been in the ByWard Market since 1849. Offering great food and drink options at extremely fair prices, 5 nights a week of live entertainment, local flair, colorful patrons, and great bartenders.
Selling a variety of locally brewed beers from the Ottawa area, including a beer specifically made for us called “1849”. Of course, also carry the more common bottled varieties of big-named brands, some more unique local offerings in tall cans, but to really fit in here, ordering a quart of 50 is the way to go, with a simple and well-priced food menu featuring classic Canadian favourites all made in-house.
A simple bar that people have been coming to for years. Casual and unpretentious, a place where people can be themselves.
The Laff House in the historic ByWard Market in Ottawa, Ontario, or “the Laff” as it is commonly known, respects our long history, and maybe the original Canadian dive bar.
I attended a holiday party from 3-6. The venue was clean and bright and the service was great, especially in light of how many people were there at the same time. After 6:00, the lights were dimmed a bit
They were celebrating the 175 year birthday of the pub. Great music played all day. The staff knew a lot of their customers names. It felt warm and inviting. We talked to many people. The age of the customers was 6 months to 75 years old. It is family owned. They were creating a frosty type of drink and provided free samples. The food was awesome. It was more than just bar food. We had a smoked meat sandwich and an amazing salad. I will try to stop here every time I visit Ottawa.
