John Cundell Stables

A living legacy of Lowertown Ottawa

John Cundell Stables Ottawa

John Cundell Stables, The absolute best way to enjoy the Byward Market downtown Ottawa. Enjoy a part of Ottawa’s History… This place has been open for over 80 years! John and everyone else there are fantastic ! Step back in time and put the cell phone away for an hour. Highly recommend taking a one hour trip down Sussex Drive into New Edinburgh and back across the Victorian Minto bridges.

Heading to a great new home up north in Ottawa, Ontario Canada. This great team will be going to work at Cundell stables the only remaining stable in the city of Ottawa where they will be pulling carriage rides and performing in parades in and around the city.

John Cundell and his family have had several horses raised and trained in Ohio over the years and they are looking forward to getting to know Tim & Ted.

John Cundell Stables is the 3rd generation to run the stable business which has provided horses that have pulled street cars, removed snow, hauled trash, and pulled fire engines in Ottawa. The 4th and 5th generations of the family are involved in the business and show horses as well.

This will be a great home for Tim & Ted where they will get to do what they love and provide a valuable service to visitors of Canada’s capital city.

Checking out the smiles of the people as they react to two beautiful horses passing by, Loving it !

Bailey, who painted the official portrait of the Right Honourable Michaëlle Jean, 27th Governor General of Canada in 2012, is an Ottawa-based artist whose diverse artistic career has spanned four decades. From heraldic painter to war artist, Bailey is a visual storyteller with many of her paintings focusing on under-recognized or behind-the-scenes workers. Past series have highlighted the working life of servers and hairstylists and have even documented the kitchen rituals of churchgoers preparing food for community functions.

It is from this viewpoint Bailey seeks to recognize the contributions made to the city of Ottawa by the Cundell family, and their horses, over the generations. This is good, have a look Lowertown’s early days: John Cundell Stables
